Sonamarg, July 3: In a recent case of transport rule violation, a Zylo vehicle (Reg. No. JK01P-6433) was found carrying 9 passengers on the Kangan to Sonamarg route, exceeding the approved seating capacity of 7 passengers. Each passenger was reportedly charged ₹120, raising concerns of overcharging alongside overloading.

The incident comes at a time when the region is witnessing high temperatures and increased travel activity due to the ongoing Amarnath Yatra and tourist inflow. The vehicle, operating under Sumo Stand Sonamarg (Serial No. 388), has drawn criticism from commuters and locals alike.

Taking cognizance of the matter, ARTO Ganderbal stated, “We are committed to ensuring passenger safety and strict enforcement of transport regulations. Necessary action will be initiated against the violators.”

Javaid Rather, President of the Sumo Stand Sonamarg, expressed his dismay over the incident. “Such cases go against the discipline and standards we aim to uphold. We will initiate internal action against the driver and ensure such lapses are not repeated,” he affirmed.

Regular commuters and local residents have strongly urged the authorities to intensify monitoring and inspections on this vital route, citing growing instances of overloading and fare exploitation, especially during the ongoing yatra.

Authorities have reiterated the importance of strict compliance with transport rules for the safety and well-being of all passengers. They also emphasized that such violations will be dealt with firmly and without leniency.

Meanwhile, the Traffic Department has been urged to conduct regular checks and deploy enforcement teams along the Kangan–Sonamarg route to ensure smooth, safe, and lawful travel for all.
