Ganderbal, July 17 (KNZ):Dispelling widespread rumors and viral social media posts, Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Ganderbal, Khalil Ahmad Poswal, has clarified that no pilgrim died in the minor landslide that occurred at Rail Pathri along the Amarnath Yatra route.

No pilgrim died due to the landslide,” SSP Poswal said. “The landslide at Rail Pathri was minor. However, a video filmed from close range made it appear more dramatic than it actually was.”

The landslide, triggered by two days of continuous rainfall, led authorities to temporarily suspend the Yatra from both Baltal and Pahalgam routes as a precautionary measure. The Border Roads Organization (BRO) swiftly deployed teams to clear debris and restore the route to ensure the safe movement of pilgrims.

Clarifying reports of a death during the Yatra, SSP Poswal confirmed that a woman pilgrim did lose her life, but the incident was not related to the landslide.

She was hit by a falling stone while on her way to the holy cave. It was an unfortunate but separate incident,” he stated.(KNZ)
