Srinagar, Feb 13: The Jammu and Kashmir Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) on Thursday arrested a police official for allegedly demanding and accepting a bribe of ₹8,000 in Srinagar.

An official spokesperson said that the ACB received a written complaint against Mukhtar Ahmad Khan, Assistant Sub-Inspector (ASI) of Police Station Bemina and a resident of Newa Pulwama. The accused was serving as the Investigating Officer (IO) in FIR No. 88/2025 of Police Station Bemina.

According to the complaint, the ASI had allegedly demanded illegal gratification from the complainant despite the case already being challaned before the competent court. It was further alleged that the officer threatened to harass the complainant if the bribe amount was not paid.

Following the complaint, the ACB conducted a discreet verification which prima facie established the allegations. Subsequently, FIR No. 04/2026 under Section 7 of the Prevention of Corruption Act, 1988 was registered at Police Station ACB Srinagar, and investigation was initiated.

During the investigation, a trap team was constituted which successfully apprehended the accused official red-handed while demanding and accepting ₹8,000 from the complainant. The bribe amount was recovered on the spot in the presence of independent witnesses.
